Starting A Blissful Haven has been the best decision I have made in such a long time. The friendships that have been made, my loyal readers, and the joy I get from hitting publish on a new post are what keep me motivated. Have you thought about joining the blogisphere? Well today’s post is perfect for you!
Choosing A Platform.
There are so many platforms that are available for you to start a blog but Blogger, WordPress, and Squarespace seem to be the most popular. Instead of diving deep into why you should choose one or the other, I am going to provide you with posts other bloggers have written on why they chose the platform they use. Since I have only used WordPress, I am not the best person to give you information on the other platforms. I will tell you why I chose WordPress. When deciding what platform I wanted to use, I did my research. I learned that WordPress can be intimidating and expense but in the long run it’s worth it. WordPress is also better for SEO and is more customizable.
If you want more information on if you should choose WordPress, check out It Starts With Coffee’s post on Why WordPress. Andrea is sharing why she loves Blogger and Cristina is sharing why Squarespace is her platform.
Creating A Name.
When determining what name you are going to choose, make sure it is unique and fits with your overall mission statement. Take your time on this! Your blog name is the face of your blog and you are going to want to make sure it is something that you are going to like and not want to change a few months later. I recently wrote a post explaining how I decided on A Blissful Haven.
Determining Your Niche.
Do you want to be a fashion blogger, beauty blogger, mommy blogger, travel blogger, or lifestyle blogger? The decision is all yours and based strictly on your passions. If you love fashion and want to write 90% of your posts about outfits and styling, then go for it! Be sure to choose a niche based on what you will find yourself writing about consistently.

Finding The Right Layout and Theme.
There are so many different ways to get a theme. Etsy has templates that you can buy and install yourself. If that isn’t the route you would like to go, there are design services out there you can hire or another option is to check with other bloggers. Many bloggers do blog designs on the side. When creating your blog, you also want to have a cohesive layout that is appealing and easy to navigate.

Establishing A Mission Statement.
All blogs need a good mission statement. A mission statement is defined as a document that aims at summarizing goals and values for a brand and/or individual. The reason why you need to have a mission statement is to keep yourself grounded on the reason you are writing. It’s also a great way to let new readers know the purpose behind your blog.
Quality over Quantity! This is the best advice I was ever given. If you have write 7 days a week and put no effect in your posts, nobody is going to want to read that. If you write 3 high quality posts, people will read that. It doesn’t matter how many posts you write but if they lack subsistence you are only hurting yourself and wasting your time. When writing posts, write ahead of time. This will help you not feel rushed writing a post the night before it’s to go live.
