As most of you know, Brad and I bought our first house this summer. We have been busy getting the main living spaces decorated and the office got put on the back burner. My job allows me to work from home, so I wanted to create my own home office where I feel inspired and motivated to work. This summer, Brad and I found a cute table that we turned into my office table. I also found a bookcase that went along with the color scheme at an anitque store. While the furniture all fell into place, I still knew there was something missing. That something was a gallery wall. So of course, I turned to Etsy and Marshalls to see what I could find. One day I was surfing through Etsy and stumbled upon the cutest shop and knew this shop was perfect for my gallery wall. I found this amazing print that had two sentimental cities in Brad and I’s relationship. The one city, Dayton, being where we met, and the other being Celina, where we currently reside. Brad is currently in the process of making frames for my gallery wall, so stay tuned for the entire office reveal. While you are waiting, be sure to keep reading and meet Chelsea from Glitteracy!
Describe your shop.
I like to think of Glitteracy Art & Design as a one stop shop! I sell original Ohio themed watercolors and drawings, as well as prints. I create bracelets, greeting cards, scarves, stickers, tee shirts, and tote bags! I think my style has a whimsical, yet sparkly feel!
What made you decide to start your shop?
I graduated from Ohio Wesleyan with a BFA in painting and a minor in education. Although I got a teaching job right after graduating, I still wanted to pursue a career as an artist! I started off selling my figurative oil paintings and got a little discouraged because sales in fine art art harder to come by. That’s where Glitteracy came in! I was thinking about what Ohioans wanted in their homes, what kind of art they wanted to add to their collection.
Where do you get your inspiration?
I get my inspiration from paint itself and this beautiful state I call home. Watching watercolors blend together is pretty magical sometimes. And creating art about Ohio is fun because I always think of new ideas for artwork today I know people will love as much as I do!
What advice do you have for someone who is trying to start their own business?
Think about something unique that your customers will fall in love with! Apply to shows, festivals, and stores without fear! Make sure that your business is always fun, and when it is not reevaluate what you can do to get back on track :)
Fall is here, what is one thing you are most looking forward to?
I’m looking forward to wearing boots and scarves, going apple picking, having crisp fall nights, and watching the shadows and light become more beautiful.
