Does anybody else struggle with being organized? It’s no secret that I’m a disorganized mess. Well I like to refer it as living in organized chaos. While 90% of the time things aren’t in the correct place, I still know where everything is at. Now that I’m married and life is getting busier, becoming organized has become my number 1 goal. With that being said, I’ve gathered 7 ways to be organized in everyday life. I hope these tips help you become more organized and to stop living in organized chaos.
7 Ways To Be Organized In Everyday Life:
Write It Down //
Always, always, always write it down. This is the most important tip I could give you. Whenever you find out something, be sure to write it down immediately before the thought leaves your head. Life can be extremely hectic and it doesn’t take much for something to leave your mind. Be sure to immediately add and tasks, doctor appointments, meetings, or dinner dates to your planner otherwise you might end up overlapping appointments or double booking yourself. Double booking can be an extreme pain in trying to get things rescheduled. It also looks extremely unreliable to miss appointments. If you don’t have your planner handy, either add it to your phone or keep a notepad with you so that you can reference back when you are near your planner.
Make Lists //
Another organization tip I have is to make lists. Keeping a list of items that need to be done is a great way to remember to get things done. If you are anything like me, if you don’t have a plan to accomplish tasks, you’ll just end up sitting around wasting time. This takes me into my next tips.
Every morning I love to sit down with my planner and make a to-do list of that day. Once I have my list organized, I prioritize the tasks in order of what has to get done that day. Typically I create daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly lists. It is really important to prioritize items so that you are getting the most important tasks done when you are feeling the most productive. My most productive times are between 8:00-12:00 and then from 2-3:00. During these times, I makes sure to get the most time consuming and important items done.
Do Things Now //
Rather than putting things off, do them when you are thinking about them. If you know your house needs picked up, don’t go watch TV. Take 10 to 15 minutes to run around picking items up.
Block Out Time //
As previously mentioned, I have times in my day where I am most productive. I make sure to avoid having meetings and appointments during those times. I block out my day and set a timer. Setting a timer allows me to focus on the task at hand for a certain amount of time. Once the timer goes off, it’s time to step away from that task and focus on something else. Keep this up throughout the day and your mind will always focus on the task at hand.
Create Schedules & Menus //
Another way I keep my everyday life is by creating schedules and weekly menus. The most important schedule I keep is our cleaning schedule. Again, I struggle with staying organized and have found that if I assign a task a day then things get done. Laundry days are Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday. The more days I assign to laundry, the smaller the loads and the easier to keep up on. We have two dogs that shed so bad, especially now that the temperatures are getting warmer. In order to keep up with the dog hair, sweeping occurs on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. We need to do it everyday but #lifehappens. I also have designated days for dusting, cleaning the bathrooms, and mopping.
Put Things In Their Place //
This tip is super important! In order to keep things organized, assign places for every item and put things away when you are done with it. Makeup has a certain place and once you are done applying, put it back. After dinner, load the dishwasher, wipe down counters, pack lunches, and sweep.
I also find that staying organized starts with in the morning. By waking up earlier, you gain more productive hours to the day. When you wake up early, being caffeinated is super important. Since I don’t have a Starbucks near me and work from home, going out to find a latte isn’t the best idea. I’ve learned to make my own lattes. Here’s a short recipe to my homemade caramel macchiato latte.
Homemade Caramel Macchiato Latte
2 tablespoons Espresso
1 cup of milk
4 tablespoons vanilla syrup
Start out by brewing the espresso. Once the espresso brews, steam the milk until you reach the temperature you desire. In your mug of choice, pour the vanilla syrup. Then add the milk first, finish with the espresso. Top with whipped cream and caramel sauce. Enjoy!
